Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck
Heyy every1,
Today I want to write about the Kurt Cobain film I saw last week. My father and older brother were kind enough to go with me.
The film was made out of interviews, sketches and small video clips.
It was not easy viewing, I must say however it does make you think about many things. His childhood affected me most. When his parents got divorced he slowly stopped being the happy boy he was and suffered dreadfully from depression.
The way I think of it is that as a child he probably was hyper and happy but this made him feel out of place and in those days no one got divorced so that made him feel much more out of place but also overwhelmingly rejected.
Experiencing a huge mix of negative feelings, lead him to four coping strategies: art, music, self medication (drugs) and withdrawal. He withdrew from school, family and friends, this made him feel alone.
There were small clips of him when he was under the influence of drugs. They were very disturbing and you really saw the trouble inside him.
One of the things you'll definitely wonder is, if he was so afraid and traumatized of rejection, why did he leave his own family by killing himself ?
This is something I discussed intensively with my father.
He thought he would ruin his daughters life by staying, that he was making his family's life hard with his mental state. He didn't want his daughter to grow up like him so he thought it would be best to leave.
Many people criticize him for his actions I completely do not! To me, it seems like I can place myself into his mind and see his pain but also all the things he has accomplished, all the songs he wrote and sung, all his inspirational quotes and many more things that none of us will ever know about.
I personally love listening to Nirvana, it's so unique and meaningful, but also original which I think has been lacking in many other bands.
